With the recent updates to cPanel came some new authentication procedures which appear to have caused a small amount of users to experience Fantastico install problems or issues connecting with phpmyadmin. We have spent the last days attempting to find a way to preemptively fix the issues, however since passwords are hashed there is no way for us to decode them to reset or a way to quickly find the accounts with the issues.
The solution is quite basic, to resolve the issue simply log into your cPanel interface click on change password and reset the password, relog into your cPanel interface and you should be able to access the broken features. Alternatively you can update the cPanel password through your billing interface.
Example errors in Fantastico:
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'username'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.123456789.12345_sxy2SCq14 on line 1641
Access denied for user 'username'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
